Do You See You?

What do you see when you look at yourself in the mirror? Of course there's a reflection, but are you really seeing yourself?

Do you see the jokes you tell her the songs you love to sing and dance to? Do you see your favorite color or the air you have to gasp for when someone makes you laugh too hard? Do you see what you're really passionate about or that one thing you can do better than anyone else?

Do you see you?

I was Fire

I was fire and I believed I had a spark so uncontrollably powerful,
Kind of in the way lightning strikes a tree during a hot, summer storm,
But instead, the only thing I could shock was my mom when I told her I got an F.

I was fire and I needed someone to keep me going,
Kind of in the way butane increases the flames in a grill at a cookout,
But instead, I quickly turned into the gray and chalky charcoal that got dumped out when the party ended.

I was fire and I thought I could inspire people with my explosive words and actions,
Kind of in the way fireworks fill every inch of the sky on Independence Day,
But instead, I was just one of those defective sparklers that couldn't even entertain a six year old.

I was fire and I wanted to go out with a bang,
Kind of in the way a bullet flies out of a hunter's gun and hits the deer,
But instead, I was only able to take down a kid for a few seconds because I was just a splash of color in a paintball war.

I was fire and I hoped to help those who were lost find the right path,
Kind of in the way a candle assists people who need to find food in the kitchen when the power gets shut down,
But instead, I let my flare burn out before they could even get the bread down to make a sandwich.

I was fire,
But fire goes out eventually.

S/O to Lacy Pitts

"Love the life you live; live the life you love." -Bob Marley

A few nights ago THE Lacy Pitts said some pretty inspirational stuff to me as we were taking a short drive down a couple of dirt roads. She also made me listen to country crap, which may have grown on me, but that's a different story. Anyways, as we were talking and laughing, she made me realize that I'm actually a really deep person and that I should share my passion for writing with the world, which is exactly what lead me to creating this blog.

I've always loved to write and express my creativity, but I was never really sure if my words were good enough to be seen by others. And then I thought, "Why should I care if they're good enough for other people?" Because in all honesty, I write for myself. It's my way of letting everything I don't want to say out loud be heard. Whether people choose to like it or not is their problem, for which I should have no concern.

And with that being said, my word of advice to you is that if you're truly passionate about something, don't let anyone stop you from doing what you want with that passion of yours. After all, it's what YOU love to do and what makes YOU happy, and that's all that should matter.

To conclude this post, I just want to thank Lacy for always being able to inspire anyone and everyone she comes across in life. And if you haven't read her blog (Diaries of a Teenage Farm Girl) yet, might I suggest you do because every single one of her posts are extremely powerful and helpful.

Meet the Teenage Princess

"I'm trying to find myself. Sometimes that's not easy." -Marilyn Monroe

Hi! I'm Elieka, and I figured it was time to do this whole blogging thing. I'm not quite sure about it yet, but I'm willing to give anything a try!

I'm an ordinary girl from Kansas and I'm getting ready to start my senior year of high school, so I thought now was a perfect time to start a blog, something I've wanted to do for awhile now. Bare with me as I close one chapter of my life and begin a new one throughout this next year.

I'll be posting poems, quotes, my thoughts and advice, and maybe even short stories or photos every once in awhile. Enjoy the confessions of a teenage princess, or don't. It's up to you!
